Finnish fiddler ARTO JÄRVELÄ and Finnish-American folk duo KAIVAMA tour the Midwest in March and the West Coast in May! (for tour dates, please visit the SHOWS page)
One of Finland’s premier fiddlers, Arto Järvelä has, over the past three decades, been a member of more than ten folk music groups. He's primarily known as founder, second fiddler, composer and arranger of Kaustinen fiddle legends JPP, in action since 1982. Throughout the JPP history, Arto has demonstrated profound talents as a remarkably skilled player and as a gifted composer and multi-instrumentalist.
Arto began his studies at Sibelius Academy Folk Music department and graduated in 1994 as Master of Music. During his studies he adapted new instruments like nyckelharpa (keyed fiddle), mandolin, octave mandolin, kantele and has been seen jamming even with jouhikko (ancient finnish bowed lyre), double bass and brushes!
Lately Arto has been doing a lot of solo gigs playing his fiddle, singöfela, esseharpa (ancient Finnish keyfiddle) and nyckelharpa.

Finnish-American musicians Sara Pajunen and Jonathan Rundman of the folk duo KAIVAMA grew up in Northwoods cultures of long winters, lakeside saunas, rugged terrain, and solitude. The landscapes of their childhoods echo in the music of their debut album, release in June 2011. Alternately ancient and modern Finnish influences reveal themselves in KAIVAMA's sound: danceable rhythms, joyous melodies, icy whispers, sleek construction, primal drones, and poppy hooks all interplay as Pajunen and Rundman explore the music of their ancestors and create a bridge between a new Finnish-American generation and the time-honored music of their heritage.
Immediately upon KAIVAMA’s first public appearance, word of the young Minneapolis-based neo-traditionalists reverberated throughout Finnish communities in America and the band began receiving invitations to perform nationwide. Finland’s YLE public radio network requested early KAIVAMA demo recordings for airplay. Audience-member videos of their performances were featured on America’s only Finnish-language TV show, Suomi Kutsuu on WLUC TV6 in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. The duo had tapped into an unforeseen demand for fresh, energetic music rooted in the Finnish-American experience.
